The Canadian International Drug Awareness Centre in Ottawa, Canada is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting drug awareness by providing educational resources. The World Health Organization recently published some numbers: more than eight million people worldwide are addicted to heroin, thirteen million to cocaine. One hundred and fourty million people use marijuana and hashish. It is estimated that two thousand people die every day from tobacco-related illness. Need smaller numbers to grasp the problem? The Los Angeles Times has reported that eleven young people in an affluent Dallas suburb have died of heroin since 1996 .
